Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India, as per the World Health Organization (WHO). It is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a sexually transmitted infection. Roche Diagnostics India has started a cervical cancer awareness initiative in partnership with Vidya Balan, a well-known Indian actress. The initiative aims to increase awareness about cervical cancer and the importance of HPV screening. By partnering with a popular public figure like Vidya Balan, Roche Diagnostics hopes to reach a wider audience and encourage more women to undergo HPV screening.
Cervical cancer can be treated effectively with early detection using an HPV test. An HPV test is a screening test used to detect the presence of the HPV virus in the cervix. This test can tell us if a woman is susceptible to cervical cancer by identifying the strains of HPV that are most likely to cause cancer. If a woman is found to have an HPV infection, further testing may be done to determine the severity of the infection and to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
It is important to note that cervical cancer is curable if detected early. Women should begin undergoing HPV screening at the age of 25 and continue screening regularly until the age of 65. Women who are at higher risk for cervical cancer, such as those with a family history of the disease, may need to begin screening earlier and/or undergo more frequent screening.
Cervical cancer is a significant health concern in India, but it can be prevented with early detection and appropriate treatment. Roche Diagnostics India’s partnership with Vidya Balan to raise awareness about cervical cancer and the importance of HPV screening is a step in the right direction. Women should prioritize their health and undergo regular HPV screening to detect cervical cancer early and increase their chances of full recovery.
